Facing foreclosure: loss mitigation
Facing Foreclosure - Loss Mitigation :
One of the first steps people facing foreclosure should take is to contact their lender and try and work out the situation. However, some folks may not know how to find their lender's telephone number. Since I live in Nevada, I thought I'd point you to their site at: http://foreclosurehelp.nv.gov/Lenders.html
It has the names of the nation's biggest lenders and their toll free numbers. Your state probably has a similar page. Simply type in words like "(your state's name) foreclosure help" into a search engine and see what comes up. If that doesn't work, look over your monthly statement and you will probably see a toll free number for your lender's customer service department.
As I state in the manual, this is the department to start your call. Ask them for the loss mitigation department telephone number while you have them on the phone. It is the loss mitigation department that will be in charge of any work out that can be agreed upon by you and the lender.
The title of the Nevada page is simply: How to Find & Contact Your Lender. The page also contains some great information on what to do if foreclsoure is imminent.
The training goes into more detail but the above information is one heck of a starting point.
